In the Garden & In the Toy Box: Recital Costumes

Important Recital Information
Recital:
We are excited to showcase our youngest dancers in this year's Recital! Our goal is to give dancers more time on stage without the additional rehearsal time required of the older students. This year's recital is divided into two shows, In the Toy Box & In the Garden. Each show will feature a selection of our beginning level classes, along with our Tap classes, and gives a sneak peek at a piece from our June performance, with a selection of dances performed by Junior and Studio Companies. Please view the list above to determine in which recital your dancer will perform.

Attendance &
Rehearsals (during class time):
Thank you for bringing your child to class regularly. Our recital is a team effort and it is difficult to work on placement when dancers are missing frequently.

Performing On Stage:

We do our best to be prepared; however, every year there are a few dancers that get a little “stage struck” or “stage happy.” They always end up stealing the show! Please do not be surprised if your little one gets on the stage and does not perform as you might expect. Being on the stage with lights and over 700 people in the audience can be very overwhelming!
Our youngest dancers are successful when they step on the stage!
If your dancer is feeling anxious, please reassure them, we will have plenty of time to practice.  Reviewing the steps in their heads or practicing at home are very effective ways to remember the sequences.

Free Dance:
At the end of some of the Pre-Ballet and Primary Ballet class dances, the children will perform a “free dance”.  At Ballet Caliente this is an essential part of dance training. Free dance allows dancers to express themselves through the music in their own creative way. Thus, they learn to PERFORM. Our hope is that as they grow in their training, they will capture and remember this artful expression.

Supernumerary Information

Supernumerary Roles:
Are you in Christmas Morning or Playing in the Garden?
View supernumerary scenes
What is a Supernumerary? Known as “supers,” extra dancers of the ballet world that enhance and create a believable scene. These dancers are chosen from our students participating in the May Recital. They will enjoy extra stage time participating in the “big show” and delight in the aspect of appearing with the advanced dancers.

Who is chosen to participate?  Dancers are chosen based on a number of factors including the following: size, dance ability, maturity, as well as ability to follow instruction and remain focused.   As a school, our students are studying a performance art; this is an excellent opportunity for our younger dancers to experience “stage time”.

What is the rehearsal commitment?   Acceptance of this role involves rehearsal commitment from dancers and parents.
All rehearsals, including choreography, blocking, and dress are MANDATORY with the only exception being an emergency or illness, when notified IN ADVANCE of the rehearsal.  Our Supers are young dancers learning to work together.  Any absence is detrimental to the group; therefore, not allowed and will result in removal from the part with no refund.
