CLASS DESCRIPTIONS & REGISTRATION:
Teacher Training
Do you want to be a Ballet Caliente Teaching Assistant or Student Teacher? This 4-session lecture series, led by Sheryl-Marie Dunaway, is designed ​to provide up-and-coming student teachers and teaching assistants with the skills they will need to succeed in the classroom. Curriculum includes the use of Ballet Caliente skills, benchmarks and practices to enhance students' teaching knowledge. 

Teacher Training Course

Students will commence with a 4-week lecture series followed by a graded practicum examination, covering topics such as critical thinking in the classroom, situational awareness, teaching spatial insight, musicality, and proper presentation to students and parents. Further, students will be assigned a teacher mentor, and gain assistant teaching experience across Primary and Secondary levels of dance at Ballet Caliente.

Upon completion of this course, all students will receive an official Ballet Caliente Teacher Training Certificate.

Required Course Books:
  • Technical Manual and Dictionary of Classical Ballet (Dover Books on Dance) by Gail Grant
  • Inside Ballet Technique: Separating Anatomical Fact from Fiction in the Ballet Class by Valerie Grieg

Training Dates & Times:
Saturday, September 9, 11:00-2:00 pm (bring lunch)
Saturday, September 30, 11:00-2:00 pm (bring lunch)
Tuesday, October 10, 6:00-8:00 pm (bring dinner)
Friday, October 27, 1:00-3:00 pm
+4 hours of practicum to be arranged individually

​Registration open to current students, age 13+ only.
Assistant Teachers must be 14 years and older, Student Teachers must be 16 years and older, Class Demonstrators age 13 and younger my be selected on a volunteer basis.  Upon completion of the course, practicum, and meeting the age requirement, individuals will be considered for a teaching assistant position.
